What are elderly sitting services?

Sitting services for the elderly are a comforting form of respite care, allowing family members to have a few hours away from caring duties. It provides comfort and companionship, perfect for elderly loved ones who need social interaction, company to share thoughts with or emotional support to avoid feeling lonely in the comfort of their own home.

Many families will look for an elderly sitting service to provide respite care – this can be for as short or long a term as you need. You can use our elderly sitting services just for an hour or two, for an afternoon or evening or for a longer period of time. We have a dedicated live-in care service for those needing an elderly sitter for overnight care and days at a time.

What can elderly sitting services help with?

Our sitter services for the elderly are delivered by experienced and well-trained private home care assistants with experience caring for the elderly as well as people living with dementia or more complex care needs.

Our carers can support with:

  • Personal care – including bathing, dressing, toileting
  • Meal preparation – preparing meals and snacks
  • Mobility support – including using hoists and mobility devices
  • Medication Assistance – whether you need help administering it or simply collecting from the pharmacy
  • Light housekeeping – help with cleaning and laundry
  • Looking after pets – receiving care at home rather than in a care home means keeping beloved family pets

What makes Alcedo Care different from a home care agency?

How our regulated services set us apart

Alcedo Care operates home care services across the North of England and North Wales, regulated by CQC and CIW.

This means we are monitored to ensure our person-centred care is safe, effective, caring, well-led and responsive to people’s needs. Being a regulated service means we can provide personal care, showering, continence care, dressing and medical care to our clients in addition to companionship. Unregulated care agencies are not able to provide hands-on care services.

Alcedo Care is a fully managed care service, meaning that from the moment you place an enquiry with us through to receiving ongoing home care from us, we manage the entire process from care planning, recruitment and background checks, training and auditing staff and regularly reviewing your package of care to ensure it meets our clients needs, even as they change over time.

Why choose Alcedo Care?

Experts in Elderly Care

We are a family

Alcedo is a family business with family values at its heart. Relationships are important to us. That’s why from day one we really get to know both our staff and our clients. It’s always personal – we recruit quality staff, provide outstanding training and personalise each care plan to the individual. Honesty, trust and open communication help both our staff and clients to foster a sense of belonging and security.

We have the local touch

We’re a large company with a local touch. We’re big enough to invest in the best and get things done, but small enough to care and have a local community focus. No matter how much we grow, we’ll always be committed to providing personalised service and support, and to making a positive impact on local communities and the lives of people we support.

We provide diverse services for diverse needs

We do more than tea and toast! Whilst our teams do support older people in their everyday lives at home, we also provide nurse-led care for people with complex care needs, including brain or spinal injuries, neurological conditions, Multiple Sclerosis, tracheostomy, epilepsy and mental health conditions.

We support people of all ages and people who need different levels of support. From an hour a day to 24/7 live-in care, we provide a diverse range of options and always tailor care to each individual’s unique needs.

We also care for people in supported living settings and are growing our children’s services.

We strive for quality

As a family-run business aiming for the highest standards, we are regulated by the CQC (Care Quality Commission) and CIW (Care Inspectorate Wales) – independent bodies who carry out regular inspections to assess the standards of quality and safety of our care services.

Alongside this, we have our own vigorous and regular auditing process, including an in-house auditing tool that helps us rate each branch and focus on continuous improvement in all areas of the business.

We are proud to be consistently ranked in the Top 20 Large & Mid-size Home Care Groups on Homecare.co.uk – based entirely on reviews and testimonials from clients and their families.

We recruit and train the best people too, as we know they are our business. Our recruitment process ensures we have compassionate and dedicated staff, who benefit from excellent training, support, benefits and career progression opportunities.

Our mission is to enrich lives and support independence, not only for our clients but our team of staff as well.

We value innovation

Innovation is the process of creating new ideas and new ways of doing things. We always strive to be innovative – in the way we provide care, in the way we recruit staff, and in the way we develop our services. By embracing innovation, we can improve the quality of care for clients and their families, and make our care more accessible, sustainable and effective.

We have digitised our care plans and use a multi-functional platform that enables us to manage every aspect of our clients’ needs by sharing relevant information and daily updates. Families and friends of people we support can also remotely access the system, providing reassurance.

We deliver person-centred training and have skilled nursing and clinical professionals who deliver care that is specifically tailored around the needs of the clients. We are also expanding our team of Community Liaison Officers, who will deliver a range of additional services to all our clients, at no extra cost.
