Our Approach
Our approach is grounded in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and shaped around each person from the very beginning. We focus on understanding the whole person- their strengths, aspirations, communication preferences and sensory needs- while prioritising safety, stability and emotional wellbeing.
PBS provides us with a structured, evidence-based and compassionate framework to understand distress, reduce restrictive practices and improve quality of life. We recognise that behaviour is communication, and we work proactively to understand why behaviours occur and how people can be supported to thrive.
Our practice is co-produced, relational and rights-led. We take a trauma-informed approach that promotes empowerment, dignity and personal growth, ensuring support is delivered with people, not to them.
Because our multidisciplinary team includes Social Work, Registered Learning Disability Nursing, Mental Health professionals and a dedicated PBS Lead, we are able to deliver safe, integrated support for people with learning disabilities who may also experience mental health needs, offending-related risks or behaviours that challenge.
We work closely with families, health partners, criminal justice agencies and commissioners to create coordinated, sustainable support that promotes long-term stability and positive outcomes.
How We Support People with Learning Disabilities
Our universal PBS approach focuses on creating capable environments, building skills and supporting quality of life for everyone we support.
We do this by:
- Creating predictable, calm and structured environments that support emotional regulation
- Using accessible and personalised communication, including visuals, objects of reference and clear routines
- Supporting people to understand, express and have control over their needs and choices
- Building daily living and independence skills at a pace that feels achievable and respectful
- Identifying and responding to sensory needs to reduce distress and overload
- Using PBS assessments and observation to understand the purpose of behaviours and improve wellbeing
- Supporting people with complex presentations, including mental health needs and dual diagnosis
- Managing forensic and offending-related risks through skilled planning, relational security and clear boundaries
- Promoting meaningful relationships, community participation and personal growth
- This proactive, strengths-based approach helps reduce distress, improve outcomes and prevent the escalation of behaviours of concern.
Supported Living
We will work with commissioners to develop bespoke supported living services that offer a safe and empowering home environment for people with a wide range of needs including those who require intensive staffing, structured routines and consistent PBS led practice.
We help with
- Daily living skills, personal care and household management
- Maintaining routines that promote emotional stability
- Budgeting, meal preparation and community access
- Access to education, work or purposeful activities
- Ongoing monitoring of risks, wellbeing and positive outcomes
For individuals with high or forensic risks, we provide additional structural safeguards including specialist risk monitoring and mitigation with close MDT oversight.
