Supporting Adults and Young People with Neurodiverse Conditions

Empowering each person to live the life they choose

At Alcedo Care, we recognise neurodiversity as a natural part of human difference. People with autism, ADHD and other neurodevelopmental differences experience and interact with the world in unique ways. Our role is not to change who someone is, but to create the right environments, relationships and support systems that enable them to flourish.

We provide specialist support for children, young people and adults, both in their own homes and within supported living services. Our focus is on empowerment, emotional safety and quality of life, supporting each person to develop confidence, independence and meaningful connection at their own pace.

Supporting Adults and Young People with Neurodiverse Conditions FAQs

Person-centred, consistent and flexible care

Our Approach

Our support is person-centred, consistent and flexible, shaped entirely around the individual. We take time to understand what matters most to each person, including their routines, communication style, sensory profile, strengths and long-term aspirations.

Our practice is grounded in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and strengths-based approaches. We understand behaviour as communication and work proactively to reduce distress by meeting underlying needs, building skills and creating predictable, supportive environments.

PBS is embedded across our services to ensure:

  • Prevention rather than crisis response
  • Reduced distress and restrictive practices
  • Improved emotional wellbeing and independence

We work in close partnership with families, education, health professionals and commissioning teams to ensure support is coordinated, consistent and sustainable over time.

How We Support Autistic People

Our PBS-informed support for autistic people focuses on emotional safety, predictability and autonomy. We recognise the importance of sensory differences, communication preferences and the need for clear, consistent support.

We support by:

  • Creating calm, predictable and structured environments that reduce anxiety
  • Using accessible communication tools, including visual supports, social stories and structured planning
  • Understanding and supporting sensory regulation through personalised strategies
  • Promoting independence while respecting personal boundaries, preferences and identity
  • Supporting people to participate safely and confidently in community life

Our approach builds on each person’s strengths and promotes meaningful engagement, choice and control.

How We Support People with ADHD

  • Building daily routines that support focus, time management and self-organisation.
  • Encouraging positive outlets for energy and creativity.
  • Supporting emotional regulation and resilience through coaching and reassurance.
  • Breaking tasks into achievable steps and celebrating success.
  • Providing flexible, non-judgemental support that adapts to changing needs.

Supported Living

We deliver supported living services for people who want the independence of their own home but with the reassurance of 24-hour or visiting support.

We help with:

  • Managing tenancies and daily living skills.
  • Maintaining routines, budgeting and meal preparation.
  • Accessing education, work and community opportunities.
  • Emotional support and wellbeing.

Each home is calm, welcoming and structured around the person’s needs and preferences.

Community Outreach

For those living with family or independently, our outreach support provides flexible assistance at home or in the community.

We can help with:

  • Building confidence and life skills.
  • Social activities and travel training.
  • Emotional regulation and coping strategies.
  • Accessing appointments and community groups.

Our outreach workers promote consistency and continuity, ensuring every person feels understood, respected and supported.

Same Day Rapid Response and Crisis Intervention

In the event of a crisis, our Rapid Response Team can mobilise substantial packages of support within just a few hours. The team is skilled in working across all age groups, operates in a trauma-informed way and is trained in the prevention and management of violence and aggression.

It can be deployed in a range of scenarios including hospital or care admission avoidance, mitigating the risk of placement breakdown, managing risks during safeguarding situations or any circumstance requiring experienced and highly skilled care at short notice.

Our Staff

Every member of our team receives specialist training in autism, ADHD, sensory awareness, communication and PBS. We believe the best support comes from understanding, empathy and genuine human connection.

Our Goal

Our goal is for every neurodiverse person we support to feel safe, valued and empowered to live a meaningful life.

Whether that means managing their own home, developing relationships, engaging in education or building new skills, we are committed to providing PBS-led, neuro-affirming support that enables people to achieve their full potential.
