What is Elderly Care?

Alcedo Elderly Care FAQs

What is elderly care?

We all grow old and that is the normal part of life but this does not mean we need to stop enjoying the things we love. However, that does not mean it comes without its challenges. With children, grandchildren and relatives leading busy work lives while balancing it with their personal lives, they might struggle to find time to provide care and support you might need.

This situation puts you at a crossroads to choose the best elderly care option for yourself – do you want to stay in your beloved home filled with memories or move to a residential care home, where you need to adjust your lifestyle and share a roof with other people?

Alcedo Care elderly home care services are an affordable alternative to residential or nursing care homes giving you and your loved ones peace of mind that all your needs and requirements are taken care of. With our elderly care plans, you will continue to live in the familiarity and surroundings of your own home and live on your own terms doing the things you like.

All our elderly care plans are unique and tailored to your needs which will help and support you to continue to live the lifestyle you wish with as much independence as possible in the comfort of your own home.

What does elderly care include?

Our elderly care plans are tailored to your needs to ensure that all your wishes and requirements are fulfilled. Therefore, our care plans are unique to each one of our clients and include different activities depending on your needs. These activities can include but are not limited to:

Running errands: your carer will run the errands for you such as your weekly shopping or grabbing something from the shop, going to the post office to send your mail, picking up your medications from your pharmacy, etc.

Housekeeping: your carer will help you with keeping your house in good condition including cleaning, washing the dishes, laundry, etc.

Looking after pets: your carer will be happy to take your beloved pet on a walk, feed and water them.

Personal care: your carer will help you maintain your personal hygiene and appearance to ensure you have a better quality of life

Companionship: as humans, communication and social interactions are in our nature, but we might get lonely with age. Our carers will ensure that you don’t feel that way and spend some quality time with you, checking on you to make sure you are well, going for a walk in your favourite park or visiting your favourite café or simply enjoying your company over a cuppa.

Assistance and support: your carer can assist and support you to go in and out of bed, help you avoid falls or move around the house if you have mobility problems

accompany you to different outings and appointments – our carers can accompany you to go to your medical appointment or to a local social event, go for a walk in the neighbourhood or visit your favourite bakery, etc.

Meal preparation: your carer can prepare your favourite meals, snacks and drinks for you to enjoy whenever you want and ensure that you receive a nutritious diet and stay hydrated.

Medication assistance: your carer can remind you to take your round-the-clock medication or help you administer them.

How can elderly care at home help you improve your quality of life?

Our home is our fortress and we all want to live in our beloved homes until the end of our life path, in the comfort of what we have built during the years, called our home, and the memories we have created in it. When choosing to move to a residential or nursing home you should also consider the alternative option of home care and what that means to you. Below are a few of the many benefits of staying at home than opting for a residential or nursing home.

  • Live in your own home – except for being in familiar surroundings, in a place with many cherished moments, continuing to live in your own home you can retain control over your daily activities and lifestyle. Therefore, you preserve your independence and voice over decisions of what care to be provided.
  • Stay close to your family, friends and pets – receiving elderly home care means that you will continue to live in your own home and you won’t lose touch with your family, friends, or neighbours and won’t be separated from your beloved pet. Even though residential homes and nursing homes allow you to see your loved ones, they need to consider when and at what times they can visit you which can create anxiety and discomfort leading to fewer visits. In most cases, you are not allowed to have your pet at care homes which could be heartbreaking for someone who is attached to their furry companions.
  • One-to-one care – compared to residential and nursing care homes where 1 carer would usually look after a couple of other elders, with elderly care at home you will be provided with the full attention of our carer who will take care of all your bespoke needs. They will ensure that your needs are met while prompting your physical and emotional well-being.
  • Personalised care plans – all our care plans are tailored to the needs of our clients and not one care plan is the same. We will work with you or your loved ones to build the perfect care plan for you that will satisfy your requirements and enrich your life and support independence.
  • Live on your own term – do the things you like, whenever you like and be in control of the decisions concerning your care plan, unlike the care homes where you need to follow their routines and standards.
  • Professional care team
