Our Complex Care Assistants are specially trained, experienced carers, who carry out additional specialist care for clients with a range of complex care needs. This might include clients who require clinical help with airway management, gastronomy feeding, or need special seizure management awareness.
A complex care assistant is responsible for carrying out any care that helps to enrich our clients’ lives, and support them to be as independent as possible. For many this doesn’t mean leaving someone to do something on their own, but supporting them to continue to live in their own home rather than going into a residential setting.
You will need carry out all of the same duties as our Care Assistants, however may also deliver some specialist clinical care including Tracheostomy care, PEG Feeding, Ventilator Care, Oxygen Therapy/Nebuliser Care, Stoma Care, Bowel and Catheter Care.
To be a Complex Care Assistant with Alcedo Care, you will need an absolute minimum of six months previous care experience, either with ourselves, another care provider, a nursing home or hospital setting, or looking after a family member with complex care needs. This is because most of our complex care roles require specialist skills in addition to a solid foundation of everyday care experience.
You will be expected to have an existing understanding and experience in skills like moving and handling, though further specific training will be offered by our nurse-led complex care team. You may receive training from one of our registered nurses, or from our complex care trainer.
