What is a Live-In Carer?

A live-in carer is an experienced carer that works one-on-one with a client, living with them in their home. Normally, carers will visit client’s homes, only spending small periods of time there. As a live-in carer you will live in with the client, enabling them to have care provided to them whilst they can stay within the comfort and familiarity of their own home.

As an Alcedo Care live-in carer, you may work with lots of different types of client,  including elderly clients, adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities or mental health conditions.

What does a Live-In Carer do?

Your remit as a live-in carer will change depending on the needs of the client, much the same as if you were a domiciliary carer. As well as seeing to the client’s needs you’ll get to spend quality time with them and provide vital companionship, but you’ll also get time and space to yourself.

A live-in carer is responsible for carrying out any care that helps to enrich our clients’ lives, and support them to be as independent as possible. For most this doesn’t mean leaving someone to do something on their own, but supporting them to continue to live in their own home rather than going into a residential setting.

What qualifications do you need to be a Live-In Carer?

To be a live-in carer with Alcedo Care, you will need a minimum of 6 months UK care experience. You receive the same outstanding training that all of our carers receive, including both e-learning and in-person training days. Additional specific training such as autism awareness, communication skills or working with people with dementia may be offered.

You will need a good level of spoken or written English, for some of our clients we may look for carers with second language skills. Being a driver will also be beneficial, as some of our clients are unable to drive themselves.
