A learning disability is a group of conditions that reduces intellectual ability, causing difficulties with everyday activities such as learning new things, the ability to understand or use spoken or written language, maths, movement and coordination, and trouble interpreting non-verbal cues. A learning disability is caused by something that affects the development of the brain either before birth, during birth or in early childhood, whether that is abnormal chromosomes, an inherited condition, complications during birth (for example lack of oxygen), illness or trauma to the brain.
