What we’re looking for

To apply, you must:

  • Have a minimum of 3 months’ care experience in a UK care setting or through supporting a family member.
  • Have experience supporting individuals with complex mental health needs and/or behaviours that may challenge.
  • Be calm, patient and compassionate, with the ability to build positive and trusting relationships.
  • Understand the importance of promoting choice, independence, dignity and emotional wellbeing.

About the Role

As a Mental Health Complex Care Assistant, you’ll support individuals with complex mental health needs to live safely and independently within their own homes and local communities.

Every person is different, so your support will be tailored around their individual needs, goals and preferences. You may be supporting someone to establish routines, engage with their community, develop greater independence, manage periods of distress and work towards positive personal outcomes.

A key part of the role is building consistent, trusting relationships. You’ll take the time to understand the person behind the support needs, recognising their strengths, preferences, triggers and goals while providing reassurance and encouragement when they need it most.

You’ll help to:

  • Promote positive mental health and emotional wellbeing.
  • Support individuals to work towards their personal goals and greater independence.
  • Provide reassurance and support during periods of anxiety, distress or emotional difficulty.
  • Encourage meaningful routines, activities and community engagement.
  • Recognise changes in presentation or wellbeing and respond appropriately.
  • Provide consistent, person-centred support that promotes dignity, choice and control.
  • Work alongside the wider care team to create positive, sustainable outcomes.

You won’t be expected to do this alone. You’ll receive specialist training, ongoing support and competency sign-off from our in-house team of Registered Nurses and training specialists, helping you develop the skills and confidence to provide safe, high-quality mental health support.
