A Children’s Support Worker specifically provides care for our younger clients. Most of these will be living with a family in their home though some teenagers and young adults may be in alternative accommodation.
As an Alcedo Care children’s care assistant, you may work with lots of different types of young people – some children may have a learning disability, some may have behaviours that challenge, whilst some may have complex clinical needs.
Our Children’s Support Workers sometimes help with personal or complex care for our young clients, but sometimes are just there as social support. This might mean helping our young clients get dressed and to and from school, sometimes it might being taking them for days out. Some of our Children’s Support Workers or Children’s Care Assistants will need to carry out some specialist clinical care including tracheostomy care, PEG feeding, ventilator care, oxygen therapy/nebuliser care, stoma care, bowel and catheter care.
This typically depends on the needs of each individual client – some roles may be open to those without previous care experience however some roles will require previous experience working with children, or working with complex needs. Experience that may translate well to working as a children’s care assistant includes looking after family, working as a classroom assistant or working as an SEN learning assistant.
We will ask for a good level of spoken or written English, and for our North Wales roles we may ask for Welsh language skills.
