Since launching in January 2026, Alcedo Care’s Rapid Response Team (RRT) has already made a remarkable difference to people and families facing crisis situations.
The innovative RRT service was created to provide urgent, person-centred care packages for people who need immediate support – from helping individuals return home safely after hospital stays, to stepping in at short notice when placements suddenly break down.
A growing team
Following its successful launch the service has already won Specialist Care Expertise at the Home Care Awards 2026, and the team itself has expanded rapidly. The RRT now comprises 14 staff members with backgrounds in mental health, clinical and complex care, including four dedicated nurses.
Since taking its first referral – supporting a woman in Wales whose residential placement had broken down – the team has responded swiftly and compassionately in every case. In that first package, the RRT was on site within two hours, stabilising the client and helping her re-engage with her community through activities like baking and outings. She transitioned smoothly to her new placement after two weeks of continuous, consistent support from Alcedo Care.
Changing lives with rapid, specialist care
The team has since delivered multiple complex care packages, including mobilising care for a tracheostomy client who was able to return home within six weeks – just in time to attend her granddaughter’s baby shower. Another success saw the Rapid Response Team help a young man with mental health needs whose previous placement had broken down. Within two weeks, his behaviour stabilised, and he was back enjoying the disco that he loved to attend – a key milestone in restoring his confidence and independence.
