National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) 2023 is the 16th annual celebration of apprenticeships, a week to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
This week we’d like to shine a light on Grace, who joined Alcedo Care as a recruitment apprentice.
Grace had in fact come across one of our care assistant roles. As well as looking for experienced carers, we offer career-launching opportunities to those without previous care experience. Are Recruitment Manager Chloe, tells us “Grace was in college when I met her, she was working a part-time job at McDonald’s, which she hated. I originally interviewed her for a care assistant role,”
Unfortunately, Grace was too young to work with us as a Care Assistant, but Chloe spotted potential and offered Grace a role as a recruitment apprentice. “She’s just outstanding…I’m very proud of Grace seeing her in her apprenticeship, because when she started, she was quite a shy individual.”
Grace admitted “When I first started my apprenticeship, I wouldn’t even ring the doctors for an appointment for myself, I am now able to speak in groups of people without being worried.”
The role of an apprentice recruiter comes with a lot of responsibility, Grace explains, “The role can be quite challenging as I’m trying to balance a full time recruitment role as well as my apprenticeship qualification. In October 2022, I was promoted to a trainee recruitment manager.”
Grace now looks after the recruitment for our St Helens branch, helping to spread the word about care jobs in St Helens, processing applications and interviewing prospective new carers.
