“Kendal is now our most northerly branch, and it holds a lot of sentimental value for me – it’s a lovely town, a fantastic part of the world. We used to holiday around here when I was a kid, and I absolutely love the area.

“The business is operated by my wife and I, and we’ve always thought Kendal is under-served, what we bring isn’t just any care, it’s top-quality care, and to be able to provide that to Kendal is thrilling for us.!

“Our ethos is all about quality – that stems from valuing our carers. My wife and I started the business after both experiencing sub-standard domiciliary care for our parents, and I think part of that is that a lot of care companies don’t focus on their recruitment of carers. We don’t have that problem, as we value our carers – after all, we are a care company!!

“We pay £16 an hour, and we encourage our carers to study for NVQs and to progress their careers – we are recruiting now in Kendal for another 80 carers and 13 office staff.”

Andy said that he has big plans for expansion, with intentions to open another 30 across the north of England in the next 3 years, and cites the range of specialist care Alcedo can provide as another driving force behind the company’s success:

“We offer live-in care, which is a popular service in rural areas like the Lake District, as it allows people who might rely on ventilators, or have tracheostomy tubes, for example, that would normally be in hospital, the ability to live at home with a live-in carer. We also offer nurse-led complex care, so people with serious mental health needs, for example, can be cared for at home.”
