Ged and Denise have been married for 45 years, however for the past three years they have had to live apart, due to both Ged and Denise’s ill health and because of the levels of care now required for Ged.
Ged suffered a serious head injury followed by ongoing complications and due to his condition has been looked after in a care home for the past three years.
Alcedo Home Carers
Denise has also suffered health issues and has been bed bound for eight months. Partly down to her physical health and partly due to a lack of confidence stemming from bad experiences.
Alcedo home carers, including Steve Sinnott have supported Denise and steadily built up her trust in the service, at the same time building her self-confidence and improve her physical strength and motivation to get out of bed to enjoy both her breakfast and lunch, sat in her chair next to a window.

Ged and Denise’s 45th Wedding Anniversary
In August, this year it was Ged and Denise’s 40th wedding anniversary and Denise very much wanted to visit Ged to celebrate their special day.
Denise expressed that when she visited Ged she would like “The Power of Love” by Jennifer Rush to be played, as it was her and Ged’s special song. So, the nursing home arranged for them to have their socially distanced reunion and for their special song to be played.
To prepare for the day, Nichola Grain our Alcedo Care Coordinator, fully supervised the team of regular carers around Denise which included : Steve Sinnott, Chloe Illingworth, Shannon Cutler, Kimberley Burdon, Samantha Reynolds, Janet Sandford, Rebecca Hunns and Jackie Lahiff.
To make sure she looked her very best, Denise bought a new outfit online especially for the occasion and Denise’s hair was expertly done by Alcedo Home Care Worker Samantha Reynolds.
Denise and Ged shared the perfect anniversary reunion, which was recorded for them by Steve Sinnott, so they would be able to enjoy their special reunion for many years to come and both Denise and Ged have asked to share their special reunion with everyone, for all to enjoy.
The Anniversary Reunion and a Special Song
“It’s through my carers who have helped me build my strength up to be able to go to see my husband, without them I wouldn’t have been able to do it. Many thanks to all of them from both myself and Ged”

Downsizing & Moving Closer
Denise has also been worried about the state of her home and needed to downsize her belongings to enable her to move to her new apartment. So, over the past few months Steve has helped Denise to downsize, with Denise being in control and making the decision as to what she would keep and what she would dispose of to help facilitate her move.
She is now able to move to a new apartment opposite where Ged lives which, with the Alcedo Care Team supporting her, which will enable Denise to visit him on an almost daily basis.
Denise watches her special anniversary video every morning.
